SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police say six handguns were stolen out of unlocked cars in Sioux Falls last weekend.
Officer Sam Clemens says in one vehicle, four guns and ammunition were taken. The other two cases had single handguns removed.
Clemens says the guns were taken from across Sioux Falls. Police took the seperate reports on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Clemens says police are at their wit's end in trying to get people to lock their cars, especially when they leave valuables, such as handguns, inside.
He says there's almost a cottage industry of criminals who spend the day going from car door to car door hoping to find one that's unlocked. He says they'll grab anything of value. Clemens says it's the perfect crime of opportunity.
He says there are now six handguns and ammunition in someone's possession and there's no telling what they're going to do with them.
