Sioux Falls, SD (KELO AM) - This week's announcement of a $174 million dollar, 80 acre expansion of Avera Health's footprint in Sioux Falls could be just the beginning of another health care construction explosion in Sioux Falls.
While nothing is official other than Avera's current plans, Jodi Schwan with SiouxFalls.Business says don't be surprised if Sanford responds in the near future.

Appearing on KELO Radio's It's Your Business, Schwan said the speculation is rampant for Sanford's response. "I think that they are taking this global look at their campus in central Sioux Falls. I think you are going to see them expand [there],” specifically east towards Minnesota Avenue. "It's not a year thing, but it's certainly in the planning," added Schwan. Sanford already has some office space in the area and has been working to acquire additional land.
Schwan also expects to see growth at the Sanford Sports Complex, which is home to training venues such as the Pentagon and Fieldhouse. "I think we might maybe hear about some plans out there this year. I don't know that any dirt is going to move this year but they did just recently acquire some land there as well."
Sanford's possibilities don't end with their central campus, sports complex, and research facilities along I-229. "Let's not forget they still own property at 85th street, where an [interstate 29] interchange is planned."
