SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Downtown Sioux Falls, Inc. (DTSF) has applied for Gannett’s A Community Thrives grant, which would help fund a downtown playground to be built close to the Levitt Shell at Falls Park West.

"With over fifty free concerts to be hosted each summer, we thought a music themed playground would be the perfect amenity to compliment the Levitt Shell," DTSF President Joe Batcheller said. "While the idea is still rather conceptual, it would likely consist of musical play equipment, play sculptures fashioned as oversized instruments, as well as more traditional play equipment. The idea is to create a unique ensemble of play equipment to compliment the Levitt Shell and be a destination in and of itself for children and families to enjoy."

A Community Thrives grant funding will be awarded based on the number of online votes. Votes can be cast once per day until May 12, 2017.

Click here to vote for this project. Voting begins tomorrow, April 11, at 10:59 a.m. CST.

The top 10 voted submissions in each category will be reviewed by a panel of judges. The downtown playground has been submitted in the Arts & Culture Category. The panel will determine the top three applicants in each category, who will be awarded grants of either $50,000 or $100,000 each. The grantees will be notified on or around May 28, 2017.

Throughout the voting period, DTSF will share information on their Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as on dtsf.com, and encourage the public to share and advocate for the project to advance by building the voter base.
