Lewis Drug leaving busy corner in Sioux Falls

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) Lewis Drug is moving from its long-time, prominent location at 41st Street and Minnesota Avenue, one of the busiest intersections in the city.

The company will begin construction in May on a new 25,000 square foot location at 37th and Minnesota Avenue. A spokeswoman says the smaller footprint will allow Lewis Drug to optimize the product mix and focus on convenience. The new location will also be much easier to access. Convenience and ease of access will help Lewis better compete against growing online sales.

The new Southgate location, retaining all the core features and departments of the old, is expected to open in November of this year.

Lewis Southgate opened at 41st and Minnesota in 1990. Its one of 52 locations in South Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa. The first Lewis Drug opened on Phillips Avenue in 1942.
