SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - 43-year-old Irving Duane Jumping Eagle was charged on Tuesday for the murder of his wife. 33-year-old Alicia Jumping Eagle was found dead with stab wounds at her Sioux Falls apartment April 3.

The warrant was issued for Murder 1st Degree, Murder 2nd Degree, and Manslaughter. The warrant carries a $1 million cash bond. Irving will be transported from Brookings County to Minnehaha County in the near future

Earlier story:

The Highway Patrol found Jumping Eagle around 9:30 Tuesday morning on I-29 in Deuel County in Northeast South Dakota. The vehicle he was driving had hit a concrete pillar near the Toronto exit.

Officer Sam Clemens says Jumping Eagle is a person of interest and has not been arrested in connection with the death of his wife, 33-year-old Alicia Rhae Jumping Eagle.

Authorities found Alicia's body Monday afternoon in her Spring Centre apartment in downtown Sioux Falls.

Clemens says a relative of Alicia's hadn't heard from her lately and filed a missing person report on Sunday, April 2nd.  Sheriff's deputies went to her apartment and did not get an answer.

The relative went to the manager and convinced her to open the apartment.  When they opened the door they saw blood, the manager closed the door and called police.

Clemens says officers found the body and saw that she had suffered stab wounds.  An autopsy is being performed and the coroner will determine the official cause of death.

Irving Jumping Eagle drove Alicia's car to Streeter, North Dakota, where a gas station clerk noticed blood on his clothing and called authorities.  Minnehaha County sheriff's deputies earlier entered the car's license plate with the missing person's report.

When North Dakota officials ran the plates, they tied the car to the missing person's case and contacted the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office.

Clemens says Sioux Falls detectives are going to Deuel County to interview Irving.

Clemens couldn't comment further on the South Dakota Highway Patrol's contact with Jumping Eagle this morning.
