SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Sioux Falls has received at least six unique proposals, so far, from private groups interested in helping to develop the 10-acre downtown rail yard area.
The city purchased the prime real estate in the heart of downtown in November, 2015.
Community Development Director Daren Ketcham says the interest is local, but also from the Twin Cities, and as far away as Philadelphia.
"We want to compete to get the best proposals and we know we have a really strong local market and I think this confirms it too," Ketcham tells KELO.COM News. He says the city will be accepting such proposals through the spring.
Heree are the six proposals so far:
- 8th & Railroad LLC
- Inland Development Partners
- Legacy Development & Consulting Company LLC
- Lloyd Companies
- Pendar Properties/Cherapa
- Smart.Visions LLC
Ketcham doesn't know yet what these groups have in mind for the rail yard property because it is still too early in the process, but he expects the first official development will be announced this summer.
"We are super exicted to keep this moving forward. Gosh, it's a decade in the making and we are so close now," says Ketcham.
