WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.COM) Lake Area Tech in Watertown, South Dakota, has won the prestigious Aspen Award for excellence, ahead of one thousand community collleges nationwide.
President Michael Cartney, speaking at the Awards ceremony in Washington Tuesday, credited, among other things, the school's culture of caring.
"We care about our students, but more important we let them know that we care about them. We believe in our students, and we let them know that we believe in them. We listen to our students and we let know them that we are listening," Cartney said.
As national Aspen winner, Lake Area Tech earns $600,000.
