VIDEO: Krebs announces run for Congress

PIERRE, SD (KELO.COM) Secretary of State Shantel Krebs has announced she is running for South Dakota's lone seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018.

She seems to allude to President Trump in her campaign video.

“I believe for the first time in my life, we have an opportunity to make the federal government more responsive to what we expect and deserve”, says Krebs in the video, “Just like we do in South Dakota and just like I’ve done in my office.”

Krebs says she has restored integrity to the Secretary of State's office and cut the office budget by 10 percent. Krebs spent ten years in the State Legislature.

“I will work to strengthen our national defense, cut wasteful spending, cut taxes and cut the overregulation so businesses can actually create jobs,” vows Krebs.

Shantel is a fourth generation South Dakotan who was raised on the family farm near Arlington, SD. She and her husband Mitch live in rural Stanley County.

Krebs is the second Republican to announce for the seat Kristi Noem is leaving to run for Governor. Dustry Johnson, former Chief of Staff for Governor Dennis Daugaard has nothing but good things to say about his new opponent..

"These days it seems like candidates are supposed to attack each other.  Well, not me and not today.  Shantel is a friend and I welcome her to the Congressional race.” says Johnson in a statement.

So far, no Democrat has announced for the House seat in deep red South Dakota.
