SIOUX FALLS, S,D, (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation will look into last Friday's officer involved shooting at Falls Park.

Captain Blaine Larsen says an officer was hit by a car driven by 22-year-old Orlando James Hamilton of Sioux Falls and the officer, who was not seriously injured, fired two rounds at the car.

Larsen says the incident began when police spotted a stolen PT Cruiser.  They tried to stop the vehicle near Falls Park but the driver attempted to flee the scene hitting a police cruiser.  An officer got out of his squad car and was struck by the car driven by Hamilton.

That's when he fired two rounds hitting the car but not the driver or a 17-year-old in the passenger seat.

Hamilton hit a boulder in the park with the rear of his car disabling it.  He surrendered to authorities and the 17-year-old was turned over to his mother.

Hamilton is charged with aggravated assault of law enforcement, driving while intoxicated, aggravated eluding, possession of a stolen vehicle and possession of marijuana and a controlled substance.
