SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO AM) There was a wild police scramble to stop a stolen car in downtown Sioux Falls Friday afternoon near Falls Park that included an officer-involved shooting.
Officer Sam Clemens briefed reporters at Falls Park, that the stolen PT Cruiser struck a police car, then tried to make a u-turn, when another police car hit the stolen vehicle. The vehicle then hit an officer in the leg, who was standing outside of his squad car. Clemens says the officer then fired at the stolen car. The officer was only slightly injured..
Police have identified the driver of the PT Cruiser as 22 year old Orlando Hamilton. A 17 year old passenger was also in the vehicle, both were taken into custody without incident after the vehicle crashed into a boulder along Weber Avenue.
Charges against the men are pending. The South Dakota Department of Criminal Investigation is investigating the incident.
Streets around Falls Park remain closed as the investigation continues.
