SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Falls investigators say the infant victim in a fatal daycare incident last fall died after being placed in a car seat for a nap.

Officer Sam Clemens says the coroner determined the boy's cause of death as positional asphyxia. He says the infant ended up in a position where he wasn't able to breathe.

Clemens says the investigation was lengthy because of it's complexity, an autopsy was done and the case went to a grand jury.  He says a grand jury allows authorities to offer more details than what would be found in an affidavit.

Owner and operator, 28-year-old Jennifer Lynes Jonnes surrendered to authorities yesterday and is charged with manslaughter, abuse or cruelty to a minor and false reporting to police.

Police were called to the daycare near Fernwood Drive and Alpine Avenue in southeastern Sioux Falls at the end of September for an infant that was not breathing.

Jonnes was the only provider on scene taking care of ten kids, five of which were under two years of age.  An ordinance says there must be an adult provider for every pair of children under the age of two.
