Combating sex trafficking with Planned Parenthood

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The House Health and Human Services Committee today sent to the floor a bill that would require Planned Parenthood in Sioux Falls to give women seeking abortions a card with information on organizations combating sex trafficking.

The card, to be prepared by the state, would have the name and phone number of an organization fighting to end sex trafficking.

The legislation has the card reading:  "If someone is sexually abusing you or causing you to exchange sex for something of value, and you want help, call 911 or the telephone number provided on this notice."

No one spoke in opposition to the proposal and the committee voted unanimously to bring it to the full House.

Watertown Representative Nancy York asked bill sponsor Representative Lynn DiSanto of Rapid City if there are other safe havens that would hand out a human trafficking card.

DiSanto answered "Not that I'm aware of."  York answered "Something for next year."
