WASHINGTON, DC (KELO.COM) It's been a long, tiring, exciting week in the U.S. Senate for South Dakota's Mike Rounds.
The continuing confirmation process slowdown by the Democrats, the late night votes, Elizabeth Warren's tongue, and Vice President Mike Pence having to break a tie on Betsy DeVos.
After very little sleep, Rounds was on KELO Radio's Greg Belfrage Show Friday morning, looking back.
"It's taken us longer to get this cabinet in place then any cabinet's since George Washington, and we're not done yet," said Rounds. He does think that things could go more quickly next week.
Senator Rounds happened to take his turn in the chair just after Senator Warren was told to stop talking about U.S. Atttorney General Nominee MiJeff Sessions because of what were ruled to be disparaging remarks. He said he had to handle all the parlimentary procedures that came into play as a result of Warren being told to sit down. Rounds told the Belfrage Show that Senator Warren "knew exactly what she was doing."
The South Democratic Democratic Party accused Rounds of voting this week to confirm DeVos as Education Secretary because her family contributed to his campaign.
"We didn't know, in fact I still don't know, where the campaign contributions are coming from that they say we got. I'm not disputing it, but if we got some, we were not aware of it," as Rounds argued that his vote had nothing to do with money. Rounds said you can't win. He explained that Arizona Senator Jeff Flake was accused by Democrats of voting for DeVos because she had not contributed to his campaign and he hoped that she would.
