SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Another month of favorable economic news for South Dakota and eight neighboring states from the monthly survey of business supply managers.
The Mid-America Business Conditions Index released this morning shows the overall economic index for the heart of the nation rose to 54.7 last month from 53.1 in December.
The economist who oversees the survey, Ernie Goss of Creighton University, says the uptick signals an improving manufacturing economy in the Midwest and Plains states.
How the survey works: results are arranged into a store of indexes that range from zero to 100. Goss says any tabulation above 50 would suggest growth. Any factor below 50 indicates future weakness.
The index includes Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota, Oklahoma and North Dakota.
