SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - President Trump's executive action on the Dakota Access and Keystone X-L pipelines doesn't mean construction can begin now, and opponents are likely to bring a court challenge.
But members of the Midwest Alliance for Infrastructure Now (MAIN) back the developer's claim that pipelines are a safe way of moving crude oil.
Brigham McCown is the former head of the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, a Department of Transportation agency.
McCown says the approval of the projects will enhance safety and enhance environmental stewardship by ensuring that the oil products are moved as safely as possible.
Meanwhile...a North Dakota Congressman, Republican Representative Kevin Kramer is asking the Trump administration to provide federal protection once construction resumes on Dakota Access.
Opponents to Dakota Access cite concern from disturbing tribal artifacts to concerns over climate and potential contamination to the Missouri River and other water sources the pipeline crosses.
