SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The honeymoon with the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center continues boasts city leaders who say net revenue last year came in at over $2.1 million dollars.
Mayor Mike Huether says attendance increased by 25,000 to over 630,000.
Huether says six out of ten visitors coming to the PREMIER Center are from out-of-town. He says they bring family and friends, stay in motels and bring their wallets, purses, credit cards and cash.
The entire event center complex and Orpheum Theater wrote a check for just under $2 million in sales taxes.
General Manager of the PREMIER Center, Terry Torkildson, says event centers are "very expensive to operate so we are pleased that we continue to get a lot of touring events coming."
Torkildson says increased attendance came from fewer events. Counting days with more than one event or session, like the Summit League Basketball Tournament, the center logged 119 event days last year.
Eleven events were sold out last year including Paul McCartney, Carrie Underwood, Blake Shelton, Journey, Professional Bull Riders (all three dates), Toby Keith, Jason Aldean, Florida Georgia Line and the Sioux Falls Stampede (Wiener Dog Racing night).
