SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELA AM) A majority of students, parents and staff surveyed support returning the start of public school in Sioux Falls back to before Labor Day.

The current start of after Labor Day was approved by the voters, but goes away in 2018.

School Officials were sharing survey results with the School Board Monday evening.

Of the over 5,000 parents that responded, nearly 56 percent wanted school to start before Labor Day.

64 percent of the over 2,000 students surveyed want to move back to before Labor Day.

Nearly 67 percent of school staff approve of changing back to the old start date.

The public can chime in at two community meetings this week: Tuesday at Lincoln High School and Wednesday at Memorial Middle School, starting at 530 p.m.
