SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - In the House Education Committee briefing today, Board of Regents' Auditor Shelly Anderson called last year's instructor wage increases at South Dakota's Technical Institutes "life changing."

Anderson says on average the funds increased salaries by 21.5% or $10,000 per individual.

She say the increase in salaries is important in terms of attracting new instructors that are quality individuals, quality teachers to the Institutes, and also retaining all the great faculty that are on staff.

Anderson says it comes down to what they're making as an instructor versus their potential wage in industry.

Anderson also highlighted Southeast Technical's "The Hub" which opened last fall.  "The Hub" houses the automotive and diesel programs, administrative offices, auditorium and food services that are available to the public.

Southeast Tech this year will renovate the Ed Wood Trade and Industry Center which includes the collision repair and refinish technology.
