SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) Spare change is tossed into the Salvation Army's red kettles constantly, but sometimes, it is very special spare change.
The Army's Major Tom Riggs in Sioux Falls talks about recent coins that gave the charity more bang for the buck, including a silver beauty,
"Dating from the 1880s, so not only did it have the coin value, but it had the value of something a hundred years old, so, that's exciting. Then we received a $5 gold piece from the same era, and a penny from 1880," says Major Riggs.
The Army could sure use more spare change like that because Riggs says the organization is still about $78,000 short (as of Friday morning) of this season's goal.
