SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Phillps Avenue and 10th Street intersection at the Copper Lounge collapse will open to traffic today at one.
City Engineer Chad Huwe says the risk to public safety has been reduced by the demolition of the Copper Lounge and Eastwold Smoke Shop buildings.
Phillips Avenue will be open for both south and north bound traffic. One lane of 10th Street will be open to west bound traffic. Two lanes of 10th Street remain closed for crews to continue work on the structures.
Huwe says anticipate delays on the open lane on 10th Street.
Sidewalks will remain closed surrounding the collapse site.
The roof on the old Skelly's building will be removed Monday and there will be temporary closures on Phillips during that work, but the should be short.
“Thank you for your patience. We, too, are excited to get traffic moving again downtown. When additional lanes of 10th Street are able to be opened in the future, we will keep the public up to date,” says Huwe.
