SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) -The Sioux Falls School Board hears second reading of a revision to the district's corporal punishment policy at today's meeting.
Board President Kent Alberty says the policy addresses restraining students when physical intervention is needed.
Alberty says the Board doesn't want staff or students getting hurt when dustups occur. He says it's imperative that every staff member is appropriately trained when a student becomes unruly.
Alberty says a corporal punishment policy has been on the books since 1990 and the legislature has made some changes so the school board must respond to the fine tuning
The Board also holds first reading of policy revisions for student bullying; student discipline, suspension and expulsion and student attendance.
The Sioux Falls School Board meets today at 5:30 at the Instructional Planning Center.
