NEW YORK (KFGO) - U.S. Democratic Senator Heidi Heitkamp has confirmed that she is set to meet with President-Elect Donald Trump Friday afternoon.

Heitkamp says she was invited to Trump Tower Wed. and will meet with him Friday.

“I appreciate the president-elect inviting me for a meeting,” said Heitkamp. “Every single day, my work is motivated first and foremost by how I can be most helpful to the people of North Dakota. They are my driving force and have been throughout my career in public service. Whatever job I do, I hope to work with the president-elect and all of my colleagues in Congress on both sides of the aisle to best support my state.”

Asked if the discussion might be regarding a possible cabinet position, she said she didn't know.

There is speculation about Trump considering Heitkamp for Secretary of Agriculture. Other sources say she may be considered for Secretary of Interior or Energy.

Republican U.S. Senator David Perdue, Retired Rear Admiral of U.S. Navy Jay Cohen, Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi, and John Bolton are also reported to be meeting with him.
