SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The South Dakota Department of Public Safety re-opened Interstate 90 between Spearfish and Piedmont on the northeastern edge of the Black Hills.
There are currently no road closures in effect, but there are some No Travel Advisories in place in the north central part of the state, west of the Missouri River.
Department of Public Safety opened a section of I-90 between Rapid and Piedmont late yesterday as weather and road conditions improved, but winds are still strong and winter driving conditions prevail.
Snow and winds are not expected to ease until later Wednesday and crews will need time to clear the roadway.
Winter maintenance has been suspended where it's too dangerous for plows to be working.
Check South Dakota road conditions at www.safetravelusa.com/sd or dial 511 before departing.
Much of western South Dakota is in a winter weather advisory with another 2 inches of snow forecast for this morning.
Total snow forecast ranged from 6 to 12 inches in the northern Black Hills to 8 to 15 inches in the higher elevations from Lead to Sundance, Wyoming.
Meanwhile...The South Dakota Department of Transpotation says the Hartford Exit 387 overpass to I-90 has reopened. Repairs on the overpass have ended for the winter and the bridge is open to two-way traffic.
All restrictions on the bridge are removed but Transportation reminds motorists that there is no centerline striping across the bridge. Striping will be done in the weeks ahead, weather permitting.
