SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - State Senate Republicans elected majority leadership positions in Pierre over the weekend.

District 20 State Senator-elect Josh Klumb says Kris Langer of Dell Rapids, Al Novstrup of Aberdeen and Bob Ewing of Spearfish are the Senate Majority Whips.

The caucus selected Senator Blake Curd of Sioux Falls as majority leader and Senator Ryan Maher of Isabel as assistant majority leader.

The Republicans also nominated Senator Brock Greenfield of Clark to serve as president pro tempore. That position will voted on by the full body at a later time.

Klumb says legislators are weighing a potential budget shortfall due to a sluggish economy.

He says lawmakers are going to have to "figure out how to make ends meet."  He says that may include cuts or taking money from reserves and hope the economy turns around next year.

Klumb says several state senators are working on legislation for the session that opens in January.

Klumb beat Democrat Quinten Burg in last week's election. District 20 includes Aurora, Davison and Jerauld Counties.
