Don't wait on flu shot

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - There have been several flu cases in South Dakota this season and some required hospitalization.

Sandy Frentz with the Sioux Falls Health Department advises that you get a flu shot now.  She says it is not too early.

Frentz says there's a high number of available doses this year and authorities believe they have a good match for the most prevelant flu strain.

She says after you get your vaccination, it takes 10 to 14 days for your immune system to reach it's peak of protection.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends flu vaccination for everyone 6 months and older.

It's also important for people 65 and older, pregnant women, caregivers, and people with chronic medical conditions be vaccinated.

Immunizations for adults and children are available by appointment at Falls Community Health, 521 North Main Avenue. Make your appointment today by calling 605-367-8793. The clinic is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Mondays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.
