SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - No white flag yet from a group supporting the Dakota Power Community wind project in Lincoln County.
Resident Brian Minish says despite a planning board's recommendation for a mile setback on wind turbines, the county commission has the final say.
Minish feels the full Lincoln County body will have a "much broader look at what wind development would mean." The mile-long setback passed planning and zoning on a four to three vote.
Minish says the wind project would bring additional revenue to the county, townships, school districts and the state.
He says also at issue are the rights of landowners who want to put a wind turbine on their property. He says some landowner realize the potential for additional profits, alongside their farming operation.
Minish says the zoning and planning board didn't see all the scientific evidence supporting Dakota Power.
First reading of the wind ordinance will be in front of the Lincoln County Commission next Tuesday with a second reading scheduled for November 22.
