SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The man shot Friday night on West 41st Street is accused of an attempted car jacking and the 71-year-old victim is a concealed weapon's holder.
Officer Sam Clemens says 34-year-old Edward James LeBlanc of Bismark, North Dakota, will be charged with robbery once he's released from the hospital.
Clemens says the 71-year-old man and his wife, from Oklahoma, were sitting in their car when LeBlanc allegedly attacked. They where parked in front of the motel they were staying at and the driver's side door was slightly open.
LeBlanc allegedly punched the man in the face and tried dragging him out of the car. The victim managed to pull a .38 caliber pistol from his pocket and fire twice. LaBlanc was hit in the arm and back but managed to flee the scene on foot.
Police found LaBlanc a few block from the incident and took him to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The 71-year-old man suffered scrapes and bruises to his face. Oklahoma and South Dakota have reciprocity for each other's concealed weapon's permits.
