SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - One in four women will be a victim of domestic abuse and Amy Carter with Children's Inn says that statistic holds up in Sioux Falls.
Thursday night is "Take Back the Night" with a ceremony at 6 p.m. at the Old Courthouse Museum.
Carter says the effort is to raise awareness of domestic violence. She says the gathering will also honor the victims of domestic violence and those who have survived the ordeal and are out of those relationships.
She says the event will also offer hope and inspire victims to seek help.
"Take Back the Night" starts Thursday at 6 p.m with a free dinner. Carter is also a member of the Minneaha County Family Violence Council that is putting on the event. There will be candlelight march through downtown Sioux Falls.
Children's Inn set a new record at the end of last month with 74 individuals staying in the safe shelter in one day.
