SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - South Dakota Secretary of State Shantel Krebs says as of Tuesday almost 28,000 absentee ballots have been requested.

Krebs says if you plan on voting on Tuesday, November 8th, go to the polls prepared.

Krebs says there are ten ballot measures and she encourages election day to take the time and research the issues you'll be voting on before going into the voting booth.  You can take a cheat sheet with you into the polls so your time will go faster.

In the last presidential election, South Dakota's voter turnout was just under 70 percent.

On the first day of Absentee Voting Friday, September 23rd there were 12,705 total absentee ballots requested which included mail and absentee voting in person.

In the 2014 Midterm election there were 55,292 Absentee Ballots cast.

In the 2012 Presidential Election there were 91,145 Absentee Ballots cast.
