SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch through Tuesday morning for portions of southeastern South Dakota and southwest Minnesota.

In South Dakota the counties of Minnehaha, Moody, Sanborn, Aurora, Davison, Hanson, Lake and McCook. In Minnesota, the counties of Cottowood, Jackson, Murray, Nobles, Pipestone and Rock.

Storms could produce widespread heavy rainfall of 1 to 3 inches, and up to 5 inches locally.Such heavy rain is capable of producing quick ponding of water in rapid runoff or in poor drainage areas.

After storms damaged areas of southeast South Dakota overnight, chances for severe weather is again widespread this Labor Day. Areas in Nebraska, northwest Iowa, southwest Minnesota and southeast South Dakota are all expecting storms to fire up later. The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center says all the ingredients are in the atmosphere for fireworks again this evening. Moist, unstable air will heat up as clouds break up slowly across the region.   Main threats from the storms will be hail, strong and potentially damaging wind and heavy rainfall.

The active weather pattern will continue to affect the region through Thursday. Their advice is to keep an eye (...and ear) on the latest forecast, monitor media and plan your activities for a chance for bad weather, and have a shelter available in case storms threaten.
