SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - They lost limbs in Iraq and Afghanistan but today the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball team is in Sioux Falls to play and inspire.
Former city councilor Kenny Anderson Junior says the team plays tonight at six at the Birdcage as part of the opening ceremonies to the Men's National Slowpitch Tournament this weekend.
Anderson says there's a very special guest throwing out the first pitch tonight. He says Michael Fitzmaurice, South Dakota's only living Medal of Honor recipient, will be a part of the opening ceremonies.
The Amputee Team will play Sioux Falls Finest, a team of first responders, army and air national guardsmen and veterans.
Admission is $5 for adults, $2 for kids and there's a request of a freewill donation of non-perishable food items for Feeding South Dakota.
Proceeds will benefit the Sioux Falls Veteran's Council, the Warrior's Summer Camp and the Amidon Park Improvement Project.
