SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The long awaited grand opening date for Sioux Falls first public indoor pool complex will be announced at a news conference on Monday at city hall.
It was always expected that the $24 million Midco Aquatic Center would open sometime this fall, but now citizens will have a specific date they can mark on their calendars. City officials will also talk about plans for a big celebration.
Ground was broken for the multi-million dollar complex on August 11, 2014, after months of debate on the cost to taxpayers, traffic concerns, and the impact on Spellerberg Park, the VA Medical Center, and surrounding neigbhorhoods.
The aquatic center includes a 50-meter pool, recreation/therapy pools, an outdoor splash pad, and many more watery bells and whistles. Spellerberg Park is also getting a face lift and folks using the park's popular hill for winter sledding will be able to warm up and have hot chocolate at the indoor complex.
