SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Sioux Fall residents have less than a week to use their free pass to the landfill.
Superintendent Dustin Hansen says over 12,000 passes have been so far but that's 900 fewer than a year ago.
Hansen says the final Saturday before the deadline is usually busy and he anticipates about 300 coming in that day alone.
Still, the city had hoped that more citizens would take advantage of the free landfill passes. Hansen says about 48,000 were mailed and they are active for almost five months.
Hansen says all loads must be tarped to be admitted free.
The passes entitle the addressee to dispose of one load, less than three cubic yards, at the landfill. The passes expire Wednesday, August 31st. Landfill hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
