SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The Bakkan Pipeline Resistance Coalition yesterday asked the Iowa Utilities Board to do more to oversee violations by Dakota Access as it builds an oil pipeline from North Dakota to Illinois.
Carolyn Raffensperger says the company agreed to protective measures in easements with landowners.
Reffensperger told the crowd gathered in Des Moines Tuesday that there is no way to enforce the laws, the rules or the contracts that Dakota Access agreed to be bound by.
The pipeline will cut through Boone County landowner Dick Lamb's farm and he says Iowa should do more to help producers.
Lamb says he doesn't blame Dakota Access because they're operating as a profitable company should. He says they're making money for their shareholders and cutting costs. He say the problem lies with Iowa state government.
A spokesman for the Utilities Board says the request for a liason was included in the construction permit.
