SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The ultimate goal is to build South Dakota's first whitewater park on the Big Sioux River in downtown Sioux Falls.
But you have to go step by step. The Sioux Empire Paddlers kayaking club is now hoping to raise 40-thousand dollars to improve river safety in the proposed whitewater area.
Club President Mitchell Joldersma says they want to remove a dangerous low head dam that collects dangerous foam and causes a hazard.
That dangerous foam also collects on the river at nearby Falls Park.
