SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls City Councilor Rick Kiley wants to put on the fast track, getting a third-party safety review of Falls Park.
He's making the motion at Tuesday nights Council meeting.
"It's good to have another set of eyes on this issue just to make sure that we are, as a city, doing everything we can..."
Kiley expects Council to approve the recommendation and expects the TenHaken Administration to follow through with it.
Kiley says the good thing about a motion instead of an ordinance is that it would be effective immediately. The city could begin getting an independent safety review without waiting the mandatory 20 days to take action.
The city is moving forward with safety enhancements at the park. Kiley says the new safety review would be just one more thing to help keep people from falling into the river.
Earlier this year, a young Iowa girl drowned near the falls, obscured by the thick foam that piles up there in the spring. The girl's mother is suing the city.
