SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- From an austere conference room in her lawyer's office downtown, Courtney Jayne shared the richness of the life of her late daughter Maggie Zaiger.
Zaiger drowned March 18 at Falls Park grasping at the heavy foam, which her mother and lawyer, Brendan Johnson, thinks the little girl thought was snow. Johnson filed a federal wrongful death lawsuit against the City of Sioux Falls today in federal court.
In less than 30 seconds at the Falls, Zaiger slipped away from her mother and into the foamy and icy waters of the Big Sioux. Jayne says it is a terrible feeling to have checked out that night from her hotel knowing that her daughter was forever gone.
But the interview with Zaiger was also one filled with joy and laughs about "Miss Maggie," a kid who could sleep anywhere and who loved to wear headbands--the wrong way.
