SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The more than $1 million project to re-make the Main Avenue streetscape in downtown Sioux Falls has been completed.
Used to be that Main Avenue was just a boring street to somewhere else, but since 2014 the city has been transforming Main into a place where people are encouraged to linger and enjoy. It started as just a pilot project, but quickly became a permanent vision after an outpouring of positive vibes from the citizens.
The city has scheduled a ribbon-cutting and community celebration August 15 at 4:30 p.m.on Main in the Carnegie Town Hall parking lot.
Brienne Maner with Downtown Sioux Falls looks forward to a bright future on Main.
"The sky's the limit. We're just so excited to see what's next," says Maner. Since the Main Avenue Road Diet project has been a-building, there has been lots of bustle. The Mackensie Pizza Grill & Pub opened. Construction started on the Washington Square mixed-use development. Maner says stay tuned.
"There are a couple rumblings of a couple other projects coming in," says Maner, without going into details.
The Finishing touches on Main included bike racks, more parking, more lanscaping, more trees, and more benches - to sit and linger.
