SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Beginning Monday, two Xcel Energy transmission construction crews will begin flying helicopters near transmission lines in western Minnesota and South Dakota as crews work to reconstruct part of a transmission line in the area.
The crews will be upgrading about 10 miles of a 345-kilovolt transmission line along Interstate 90 between the Noble County substation in Reading, Minnesota (seven miles northwest of Worthington, Minn.) and the Split Rock substation (one mile northeast of Sioux Falls, S.D.).
Crews will be installing spacers to help stabilize lines during the icy and windy winter months and will also be installing 10 miles of new conductors. The work is expected to be completed by September 1.
The exact flight schedule is dependent on weather and flying conditions.
