SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- It will be a hot Father’s Day weekend across the area.
Hot and humid conditions are expected again Saturday with heat index values in the mid-90s to near 100. A heat advisory has been issued for parts of the area through Sunday evening, mainly south and east of Sioux Falls. The immediate Sioux Falls area is not in the Heat Advisory. Temperatures in the Sioux Falls area will be in the low 90’s for Saturday.
With the heat comes the chance for thunderstorms. The National Weather Service says there is a slight chance for severe weather to the north and west of Sioux Falls Saturday night.
The chance of thunderstorms will slowly increase through the weekend, peaking across the entire area later Sunday and Sunday night. Scattered strong to severe storms will be possible, along with the potential for locally heavy rainfall.
The system will have plenty of moisture to work with Sunday and Sunday night, as remnants of post-tropical depression Bud will cross the area. The heaviest rain will fall Later Sunday into Monday morning.
According to the National Weather Service, a widespread half inch to two-inch rain totals are possible, with higher amounts in the heavier thunderstorms.
