SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A 30-member task force got together on Wednesday night to debate how best to address overcrowded classrooms in the city's public school system.

Members of the task force prioritized more than a dozen multi-million dollar projects set to be considered.

Funding a $4.7-million land purchase to replace Whittier Middle School sits atop the panel's wish list.

The task force is considering the construction of a new $43-million middle school on the east side of town, and an $84.7-million high school on the city's west side.

The possibility of a $17.5 million elementary school on the northwest side of town would also fall under the panel's plan.

Members of the panel will meet again May 30 to set up a funding request. The suggestion would then move to the Sioux Falls School Board to be approved, amended or rejected.

If the nearly $150 million proposal is approved, Sioux Falls taxpayers could see a bond referendum this fall to help finance the projects.
