SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Though the Black Hills gets most of the tourism attention, it's the Sioux Falls area that has nearly half of all tourism related wages in the state.

That's just one of the many facts in the Sioux Falls Convention and Vistors Bureau report for 2017.

The CVB says that's because the Sioux Falls area pays better for travel-related jobs than the rest of the state.

Other statistics:

  • 38 percent of all South Dakota tourism spending is spent in Minnehaha and Lincoln Counties. Minnehaha alone accounts for 27 percent of tourism spending in the state.
  • Over 1.1 million visitors spent at least part of a day in Sioux Falls.
  • Over 550,000 visitors stayed overnight in Sioux Falls.
  • The single largest location of visitors browsing the CVB website are from Minneapolis/St. Paul (+62,000), followed Omaha (+58,000), Chicago (+39,000), Sioux City (+25,000), and Des Moines/Ames (+14,000).
  • Canadian web visitors lead non-U.S. visitors to the CVB website, followed by India, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
