SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- On a sunny, windy, and warm South Dakota spring day (finally!), Mayor Mike Huether led a bunch of kids in planting a larch tree for Arbor Day.
After he proclaimed it Arbor Day in the city, Councilor Theresa Stehly, parks director Don Kearney, and Mary Jo Wegner Arboretum officials spoke. The Mayor then turned about ten pre-teens loose with golden shovels to plant the tree.
In just a few minutes, the children finished their job.
The City will plant over 300 more in parks and other property.
Watch the ceremony above as well as with Quinlan, who helped plant the tree, and long-time Arboretum board member Pam Taylor Jansa on the importance of Arbor Day.
