SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Learning she was in a run off for Sioux Falls mayor with Paul TenHaken, wasn't the only big news election night for Jolene Loetscher.

Her baby walked for the first time.

"She took her first steps. I'm tearing up.....I'm like 'my baby walked!!" Loetscher enthused on KELO Radio's Greg Belfrage Show. Loetscher says first time voters helped her into the run off, including her mother-in-law.

"We call her Grandma Candy. So, Grandma Candy is 64 years old and she's never been registered to vote and felt like her voice didn't matter, no one cared.."

Both Loetscher and TenHaken were on the Belfrage Show the morning after Tuesday's election.

Their run off is May 1. TenHaken says it's like a new beginning.

"..This run off period is tight. you've got three weeks to basically run an entire new campaign. It's going to be nuts for the next 21 days, but we're ready to go."

Turnout was said to be lower than average in Tuesday's city election. TenHaken hopes for more now that there are only two candidates for mayor.

"I'd love to see the turnout higher on May 1 because this is the election now. Now we've whittled down the field and we're here."
