SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The new manager of the City's three municipal golf courses promises more personal service, more year around events, easier ways to book tee times--and a City Championship golf tournament.

Mayor Mike Huether, parks director Don Kearney, and Landscapes Unlimited's Justin Arlt held a news conference today at the Prairie Green clubhouse.

One of the big changes is a reinstitution of a city-wide golf championship--held on the City's links.

Sioux Falls will have a city golf championship tournament.

"We feel like the city championship should be held at the city courses," Arlt, the new LU Sioux Falls manager said. "So, we're going to do that in the fall."

Arlt is the former manager of LU's golf course in Dakota Dunes, recognized by some as the best course in the state.

There's also a new website for tee bookings: siouxfallsgolf.com.

When asked if there was some pleasure to see LU get so much done in 90 days after all the controversy, Huether hesitated, then addressed the question. He said that he didn't take any special pleasure in that.

"Making things better," that's the goal Huether said, echoing a refrain from Tuesday's State of City Address. "In politics, in public service, you move on to the next thing.

LU plans to hold family nights and clinics. Both Huether and Arlt said they hope to see year around usage of the facilities, not just golfing from March to November.

As to more pesonalized service, Arlt compared the experience golfers will have to McDonald's--they mention the bill three or four times--versus Chik-Fil-A, where they say please, thank you and so forth.

The courses will also feature expanded menus items.
