SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- City Councilor Theresa Stehly has written Mayor Mike Huether and his administration that she supports more signage and a temporary springtime barrier at the falls at Falls Park.

Her letter is below.

Yesterday, Stehly was circulating a resolution to get the City to release a 2016 safety audit of the Falls Park area. The City responded after the City Council Informational Meeting yesterday, saying that it has asked the South Dakota Public Assurance Alliance to release relelvant portions of the report to the media.

Stehly and City Councilor Pat Starr are scheduled to appear on The Greg Belfrage Show Thursday morning to discuss falls safety and releasing the report.

Dear Mayor,

I am writing to voice my support of increased signage and a temporary barrier during the Spring Season of dangerous foam and slippery terrain at the site of the deaths in Falls Park in 2013 and March 18, 2018.  I will support  appropriating  funds to make these things a reality, along with efforts to clean out the foam in the area.

I have heard from citizens that they don’t want a barrier to obstruct the beauty of the falls. A temporary spring fence could be done in a way to enhance the beauty, while adding extra protection to visitors.

Our prayers go out to the family of tourists who lost their beloved daughter. Let us work as a community to ensure that this does not happen again.

Thanks for your consideration,

Theresa Stehly
