SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- It looks like Wednesday's National School walkout will be quiet in the Sioux Falls area.

District schools will be holding non-political events with walkouts not permitted.

The events are in response to the high school massacre in Parkland, Fla. on Feb. 14.

At Mitchell High School, students will be permitted to walk out - but just across the street to the performing arts center to hear some state lawmakers talk about the issues of school safety.

"Listen, share concerns that they (students) have about laws and ways that they can be involved in the future," says MHS principal Joe Childs. "

At Sioux Falls Edison Middle, they'll have a 'Walk Up', an event to encourage students to be nice to one another.
