SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- South Dakota is steadily returning to normal after the big, windy snow storm.
Interstate 29 is open again from North Dakota to Iowa, and, at last check, Interstate 90 has been re-opened from Mitchell east past Sioux Falls into Minnesota.
Highway Safety officials still urge extreme caution because of icy patches, drifting snow, and wind.
The main roads in Sioux Falls are looking pretty good, although Streets Chief Galynn Huber says his crews have had their hands full with the windy conditions.
"As we're trying to get the emergency routes looking good, the wind kept blowing the snow across and then it freezes on and we just have to go back, and back, and back, and you are kinda chasing your tail with it." Huber told KELO Radio's It's Your Business Show Tuesday morning.
Sioux Falls received nearly 4 inches of snow, but the snow was much deeper to the north and west. Aberdeen posted nearly 10 inches. There were 70 mile-per-hour wind gusts reported near Badlands National Park.
Sioux Falls schools had a rare snow day off on Tuesday, and there were many cancellations and closings.
The snow didn't stop tens of thousands of hardy fans from enjoying the Summit League Championship Basketball Tournament at the Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
