SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- University of South Dakota President Jim Abbott was released from a Sioux Falls hospital Monday, following his weekend heart attack in Vermillion..
USD says Abbott, 69, is expected to make a full recovery.
He actually drove himself to the emergency room in Vermillion and was later airlifted to Sioux Falls.
The University says Abbott is very grateful for the quality care and attention he received from Sanford Vermillion and the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. He's also appreciative to all those who have reached out and expressed their well-wishes and support.
Abbott has been president at USD for 21 years and plans to retire in June.
