SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls police officers are featured in a new video about distracted driving that will be shown in driver education classes in the city's public schools.
The cops get right to the point.
"The mere seconds that he turned down to look at his phone caused him to come off the road and strike a telephone pole that did take his life," says one of the school resource officers on the video, as police lights flash blue and red in the background.
School District Spokeswoman DeeAnn Konrad says hundreds of students go through driver ed each year and are a "captive audience" for a new message on the dangers of distracted driving.
"It's really a message that will get directly to them, but hopefully it will spill out into the community, as well."
Also part of this new partnership between the School District and the Police will be billboards and public service announcements on local media.
